"I will set My bow in the cloud, and it shall be for a sign of a covenant between Me and the earth."
Genesis 9:13

Why name this site Desert Rainbow?

It was pouring rain while driving to the hospital the morning that my wife went into labor with our first child. I said to her, "Are you sure that you want to have a baby on a day like this?" as though it was some bad omen. She said that God would send a rainbow. In my head I thought, "That's nice, but it will probably be midnight by the time of the delivery and too dark for a rainbow."

Who am I to rain on God's rainbow? My wife had a relatively short labor, and minutes before our daughter was born we could see from the hospital window that the clouds had parted, and a beautiful double rainbow appeared.

God put the rainbow in the sky as a promise after the flood. For us, it represents the answered promise of a child despite the statistical odds against it due to our age and my history of cancer.

We will never look at a rainbow the same, and we will always look at our daughter and wonder what special plans God has for her.

Addendum

Perhaps now we know why God gave us a double rainbow. We have just been blessed with a second child.
